MagnifySlider browser extension
Privacy Policy
Effective 26 August 2026
MagnifySlider collects no personal information. Nothing you browse, watch or type on a web page is recorded, and nothing about your activity is sent anywhere. The only information the extension ever transmits is a license key you type in yourself, sent once to Gumroad to confirm your purchase.
MagnifySlider is an indie tool operated by Abir in Chennai, India.
What the extension does
MagnifySlider has a single purpose: to give you frame-accurate control over the playback position of a paused video on the sites it supports — youtube.com, udemy.com, vimeo.com and coursera.org, including embedded Vimeo players, which are served in an iframe of their own origin. Every permission it requests serves that purpose and nothing else.
Information stored on your device
The extension stores four values using chrome.storage.local. They are
written and read only by the extension itself, they stay on your computer, and they
exist to run the 7-day trial and remember a purchase:
tm_installedAtThe time of first install. The trial countdown is measured from this and it is never overwritten.tm_lastSeenAtThe latest time the extension has observed, so that setting the system clock backward cannot un-expire an elapsed trial.tm_licenseThe record written after a purchased key is verified: the key, its status, the vendor, the product and order id, and the verification time. This is what keeps a paying customer unlocked.tm_lastReminderThresholdWhich trial-expiry reminder has already been shown, so the same reminder is not repeated.
chrome.storage.sync is not used anywhere in the extension, so none of
this is copied to a Google account or to any other device.
The one thing that is transmitted
When you enter a license key and click Activate, the extension sends that key,
together with our own product ID, in a single request to Gumroad's public
license-verification endpoint
(POST https://api.gumroad.com/v2/licenses/verify). This happens once, at
activation, and never again. No other Gumroad endpoint is contacted, and no other
network request is made by the extension at any time. Buttons in the extension can
open Gumroad pages in a new browser tab; those are ordinary navigations you
initiate.
Purchases are processed by Gumroad, our payment processor. Payment details are never seen by, or passed through, this extension. What Gumroad does with the information you give it at checkout is governed by Gumroad's privacy policy.
What is never collected
- No browsing history, and no list of the pages or sites you visit.
- No URLs, page text, video titles, or viewing activity.
- No form input, cookies, passwords or credentials.
- No personally identifiable information, location, or health, financial or authentication data.
- No device identifiers, and no analytics or telemetry of any kind.
On the supported sites, the part of the extension that draws the scrubbing control
reads only the position, size and playback state of <video>
elements and their surrounding player containers, and writes only the control it
creates. It makes no network requests and transmits nothing off your device.
How the information is used
The four stored values are used only to decide whether the scrubbing control is enabled for you, and the license key is used only to confirm that a purchase is genuine. Consistent with the Chrome Web Store's Limited Use requirements, the information the extension handles is limited to what is strictly necessary for that single purpose. It is not sold or transferred to anyone, it is not used or transferred for any unrelated purpose, and it is not used to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
No remote code
The extension runs no remotely hosted code. There is no eval(), no
dynamically injected script, and no script, stylesheet, font or other resource loaded
from a CDN or any external origin. There are no third-party SDKs, advertising
libraries or tracking libraries. Every line of code that runs is contained in the
package published on the Chrome Web Store. The license-verification response is JSON,
which is parsed as data and never executed.
Deleting your information
Uninstalling MagnifySlider removes its chrome.storage.local data,
including the license record, from your browser. That is the whole of what the
extension holds, so uninstalling deletes all of it. If you would like confirmation, or
have a question about deletion, write to
support@magnifyslider.com.
Because a license key is stored locally rather than tied to an account on our side, deleting it here does not cancel your purchase — you can re-enter the same key at any time to unlock the extension again.
Children
MagnifySlider is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If the extension's data-handling practices ever change after you have installed it, you will be told within the extension before the change takes effect.
